St. Georg, the Lange Reihe and the Alster beach
10. Feb 2021

My friend Christine had never been to Hamburg before, and I had been there dozens of times, but only on business. It was high time we took a look at Germany’s second largest city…. On the first day, we had done the harbour, St. Michel and the inevitable Reeperbahn. On the second day, our greeter Marie-Luise was waiting for us at the Schauspielhaus. Luckily, she turned out to be a coffee aunt – so she fitted in well with us. We stopped at the Hotel Reichshof for coffee. The lobby of this hotel alone is worth seeing and photographing. Then Marie-Luise showed us the highlights of St. George. We visited the cathedral with the crypt and then went to Lange Reihe, which we later visited again without her. We finished with a long walk along the sunny Alster. My previous visits to Hamburg were always – I stress always – accompanied by heavy rain. Marie-Luise must have smiled the clouds away that day: she is so charming, cheerful and eager to provide information. You can tell that she has spent her life working with people. We would like to thank the Hamburg Greeter Association with a small donation. I think this idea with the greeters is excellent, you experience a city in a completely different way. Thank you, dear Marie-Luise Thank you, dear Hamburg Greeters Christine and Martin from Cologne Picture source: Own production
