Wilhelmsburg covers the largest area in Hamburg. Together with the adjacent qarters of Veddel, Steinwerder and Kleiner Grasbrook, it forms an island surrounded by the Northern and Southern Elbe. On a bike, one can get a good impression of the port.
The island is used by many nurseries for growing trees, flowers and vegetables.
In 2013, Wilhelmsburg was the venue for the International Garden Exhibition, the grounds of which are now a park for the local population.
