The heart of St. Pauli is, of course, Reeperbahn, Hamburg’s sinful mile. Almost every tourist visits it when in town. But this quarter offers far more than that.
Not many people know what goes on in the innumerable little side streets and back-yards.
There are lots of little shops and second-hand outlets in Paul-Roosen-Straße; there is a hospice in Simon-von-Utrecht-Straße where terminally ill people on their last journey are cared for. There are cultural highlights in little clubs off the beaten tracks of big musical-stages where the next Beatles might perform one day, and you find hip bars with posh cocktails, burlesque and an honest Astra-beer.
