An experience not to be missed

Our time with Fred, an International Greeter in Hamburg, was a highlight of our month in Europe. Fred took us to parts of Hamburg we never would have found on our own while sharing the history of Hamburg and how it informs the present. We took a ferry ride down the river, walked along a neighborhood where sea captains used to live, and explored a changing neighborhood. We parted with a great appreciation for the dynamic and diverse city of Hamburg. We highly recommend others taking advantage of this wonderful program and becoming Greeter in their own cities. Thanks again, Fred!

An informative and personalized tour with Gudrun

We had a wonderful experience with our Greeter Gudrun. She showed us (we’re an American couple plus our 21-year old son and his girlfriend) several neighborhoods around the city center, discussing architecture, history, customs, and contemporary issues plus many other subjects, answering every question we asked. She had maps and brochures to offer us, to help with planning our visit. She was friendly, welcoming and genuinely interested in making sure we enjoyed our experience in Hamburg. We really enjoyed seeing “her view of Hamburg” which made it a personal experience not a standard tour. That is what we enjoyed the most.

Good News from Brussels!

We were absolutely delighted with our guided visit of Hamburg with Gordon. The visit was just extraordinay and the knowledge of Gordon about Hamburg was absolutely amazing. We really enjoyed the visit and would like to make a contribution to your association.

Also, worth mentioning, Gordon’s knowledge of French is just not good but fantastic!!!!

Thanks a lot for everything, Roseline

An excellent guide!

Chicago Loves Hamburg, Our Sister City

We had the good fortune to meet our Greeter Klaus twice. He met us at our hotel in the late afternoon to review our plans for our greet. Klaus once again met us at our hotel two days later and he showed us many areas of Hamburg that we would not have found on our own. We visited the Elbtunnel, took a ferry boat to Finkenwerder and back to Neumühlen. We met up with another Greeter, Edith Johnson, and later visited the Beatles-Platz in the Reeperbahn. We finished the wonderful long day at the top of the “Dancing Towers” for a delightful refreshment.

Enriching our stay in Hamburg

Our experience with Hamburg Greeters was one of the more enjoyable times we had during our trip to five European cities. Rarely does one have the opportunity to see a city thru the eyes of a local. Yes, we truly enjoyed the sites our Greeter, Jörn, introduced and explained to us, but more importantly and what was truly special was the engaging conversations we had with Jörn on a variety of topics, including, but not limited to: politics, history, architecture, and culture.
With Jörn we visited areas that would be considered popular with tourists, but more of our tour was about seeing sites, buildings and areas where tourists would not typically explore and this so enriched our stay in Hamburg.

Spread The Word- Excellent Greeters

We meet our Hamburger Greeter Fred at JUNGFERNSTIEG Station just outside the Apple Store, a very convenient location. Fred gave us excellent instructions on how to purchase subway tickets, ride the train and how to locate stops. Some of the walk included the Town Hall, a stroll along the river Elbe, a ride on the ferry to see the new ELBPHILHARMONIE hall.

We enjoyed learning about Hamburg, past and present. Fred was very knowledgeable, any question asked, he was able to provide us with an answer. As the tour came to an end, Fred suggested one last stop where we could try their specialty Würstchen (sausage).

Excellent tour, informative guide, time well spent.

A fantastic ambassador for a fantastic city!

I spent a wonderful day in the company of Bennet on a hugely insightful walking tour around Hamburg. Bennet is a walking encyclopaedia about Hamburg, from the history of every quarter and every building, to best place to buy second hand records … or get the best kebab in the city! Bennet was so knowledgeable and passionate about his home city, and it was brilliant that he took so much time out of his day to share that knowledge with me on my first ever visit to Hamburg. A fantastic ambassador for a fantastic city!

Thank you Susanne and Hamburg Greeters

Hamburg Greeters is a fantastic service and it really enhanced our short trip to Hamburg. Our Greeter Susanne was the perfect match for us and she provided us with a lovely and informative introduction to Hamburg. Susanne was friendly and welcoming and I would recommend her and the greet service to any visitor to Hamburg.

A perfect autumn day in Hamburg

I visited Hamburg on what was such a spontaneous trip, it was short and it was all I needed to switch off before taking on a big project. I hadn’t really planned what to do or see. Typically I’m not a tourist kind of person, I like to blend in like a local. I like understanding the city, capturing its true essence and have a conversation about its history with citizen / resident and make new friends. I think, I managed to embrace the city by meeting my Greeter Susanne, who is a Hamburg Greeter. She was warm, friendly and invited me to know Hamburg from her perspective. Meeting her on my first day of the trip, set the scene well for me and I managed to explore more about the city based on her recommendation. We spoke about everything from architecture, culture, religion to Brexit, all over coffee and cake and length walk where nature witnessed our connection.
